Pursuing U.S. Adoption

Overview

In January 2010 Adoption Options began working with an American agency to facilitate adoptions from the United States. Adoption By Shepherd Care (ASC) had already established working relationships with agencies in both Alberta and British Columbia. Working with the US Department of State and the Manitoba Government, ASC established an adoption process that is in compliance with the Hague Convention.

The Program is open to married couples of which both husband and wife are between 25 and 50 years old. The couple must have been married one year on application to ASC.

The Children

Similar to Adoption Options, ASC supports a philosophy of open adoption in which the birthmother will select an adoptive couple. They too work with birthmothers who are in a variety of situations. Adoptive couples will have the opportunity to convey what types of situations they are open to and their profile will only be shown to birthmothers whose situations match with their comfort levels. The majority of ASC placements are African American and Bi-Racial infants.

Budget

The approximate cost of adoption through ASC starts at $25,000 to $40,000. Factors that may affect the cost include travel costs and expenses while in the United States.

Timelines

These adoptions are based on Birthmother selection and we are unable to provide a timeline.
